Strange things are happening: Non sequitur?

I refer to the article “CPF interest rates to remain unchanged” (Channel NewsAsia, Nov 25).

Strange things unique to Singapore continue?

It states that “The computed OA interest rate – derived from the major local banks’ interest rates from August to October 2014 – worked out to be 0.21 per cent per annum. As this was below the legislated minimum of 2.5 per cent per annum, the OA interest rate will be maintained at the minimum amount, the CPF Board said in a news release on Tuesday (Nov 25).”

– Are there any countries in the world that peg their national pensions rate to that of the banks’ deposit rates, as this is generally the lowest interest rate amongst all financial instruments in a country?

Stranger than fiction?

Of  late, strange things seem to be happening.

May not be good to rant online?

When you post your job problems and injustice online – they say it may not always be good for you, as employers may not hire you because you are “vocal”or something. And then your name is also mentioned along with the advice that it may not always be good for you to talk or rant about your job issues online – kind of in effect – like maybe even more people may know the person concerned.

So, if the logic is correct, does it mean that it may be even harder for the person to get a job, since more people may now know his name?

Proxies spreading falsehoods?

When you ask questions about your town council’s issues – some people say that you are a proxy for the Workers’Party. But, nobody mentions the identity of the so called “proxies””or what exactly were the falsehoods that they said.

150th for encouraging freedom of speech?

Well, I guess if we have a ranking for “encouraging” freedom of speech on the internet (like the examples cited above) – we may get an even lower ranking than 150th – like our Press Freedom ranking.
