I REFER to the letter “IR updates requested” (Sept 30). Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) values its role in boosting Singapore’s tourism and local employment. When fully operational, RWS will command a headcount of about 14,000.

Today, we have a 13,000-strong workforce; about 70 per cent are locals. Our talent recruitment is ongoing and we remain committed to hiring Singaporeans.

Besides the requisite skill sets, we look for local talents with passion to serve and motivation to be hospitality professionals. Since 2007, we have initiated discussions with government agencies, interest groups and schools here for our recruitment needs.

Together with the Workforce Development Agency, the Employment and Employability Institute, community development councils, the Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises, the Women’s Development Secretariat and many others, we conducted over 250 recruitment talks and fairs to offer career opportunities to suitable local candidates.

We also collaborate with learning institutions. Last year, we inked two significant memoranda of understanding with the Institute of Technical Education and all five polytechnics, offering internship opportunities and annual scholarships to groom the next generation of tourism and service industry talent. In addition to talent recruitment, RWS invests in team members for the long haul by equipping them with skills that help them stay employable.

We not only provide structured training to help them do their job well and raise their productivity but also to help them grow with the company.
