Overall unemployment rate unchanged, but citizens’ unemployment rate up

According to the Ministry of Manpower’s Employment Situation, Third Quarter 2015 report released on 29 October – “the overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged over the quarter at 2.0% in September 2015. However, unemployment edged up among residents (2.8% to 3.0%) and citizens (2.9% to 3.1%)”.

More unemployed S’poreans relative to foreigners?

Since the overall unemployment rate remained unchanged, whilst the resident and citizens’ unemployment rates increased by 0.2% – it means that unemployed Singaporeans increased relative to foreigners.

Unemployment rate – 2.35% (PRs), 0.4% (foreigners)?

As to “There were 3,644,000 persons in employment in September 2015 … An estimated 56,600 residents, including 51,100 Singapore citizens were unemployed in September 2015. The seasonally adjusted figures were 66,800 for residents and 59,800 for citizens” – I estimate the unemployment rate for PRs and foreigners to be 2.35% and 0.4% respectively.

These are much lower than the 3.1% for Singaporeans.

Unemployed – 6,080 foreigners, 7,000 PRs & 59,800 S’poreans?

I also estimate that the number of unemployed foreigners and PRs was only 6,080 and 7,000 respectively, compared to 59,800 citizens.

9 unemployed S’poreans for every unemployed foreigner/PR?

In other words, does it mean that for every unemployed PR or foreigner, there were about 9 unemployed Singaporeans?

Why no breakdown into PRs & S’poreans?

Why can’t the labour statistics give the breakdown in the total employment into PRs and Singaporeans? It may also be not very helpful that the subject report did not give the usual breakdown into foreigners and residents (PRs and Singaporeans).

Why no PRs & foreigners’ unemployment rate?

The unemployment rates should also be given for foreigners and PRs, instead of just the overall, resident and citizens’ unemployment rates.
