2007-2014: 390,200 local jobs, 502,900 foreign jobs, 502,136 new citizens/PRs?

Creating jobs for S’poreans the key aim

I refer to the article “Creating jobs for Singaporeans the key aim of economic renewal: Ministries” (Channel NewsAsia, Jan 19).

It states that “”MOM seeks to help Singaporeans take on good jobs, build fulfilling careers, enjoy sustained increases in real incomes and have a more secure retirement.”

A key tenet in this is the need to build a “Singaporean core” in the workforce, ensuring fair opportunities for leadership development for Singaporeans, said Mr Lim. To achieve this, he added, companies will need to embrace productivity and innovation, and reduce reliance on low-skilled foreign manpower.”

Why no breakdown into citizens and PRs?

Since the unemployment data is broken down into Singaporeans and locals – why is it that the employment and employment change data cannot be broken down into Singaporeans and PRs?

2007 to 2014 – resident labour force increased by 390,200 against 893,100 total labour force increase?

If we look at the labour force statistics up to December 2014, – the Resident Labour Force increased by 390,200 from 1,878,000 in 2007 to 2,268,200 in 2014.

In contrast, the total labour force increased by a whopping 893,100 from 2.730,800 to 3,623,900 in the same 7-year period.

Only 44% of jobs to locals?

Does this mean that only about 44% (390,200 divided by 893,100) of the increase in the labour force was due to residents (Singaporeans and PRs), and 56% went to foreigners?

Jobs to Singaporeans?

Since the statistics are not broken down into citizens and PRs, what was the percentage for Singaporeans?

During the period from 2007 to 2014 – how many new citizens and new PRs were granted?

502,136  new PRs and new citizens granted from 2007 to 2014?

During the years from 2007 to 2014  – 348,785 new PRs and 153,351 new citizens were granted.

What % of the increase in the labour force to Singaporeans?

So, if we account for the number of PRs, new PRs and new citizens – what percentage of the increase in the resident labour force of 390,200 from 2007 to 2014 were Singaporeans, against the 502,136 new citizens and new PRs granted?
