Shed light on why passes rejected

I refer to the reply in Parliament about long-term visit passes (LTVPs).

About 9,400 foreign spouses of Singaporeans were on these passes each year between 2008 and 2010.

A reply to a similar question in Parliament on May 18 last year revealed that the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority processed an average of 15,400 LTVPs from foreign spouses of Singaporeans per year from 2005 to 2009.

Of these, about 2,200 applications were unsuccessful.

Between 2008 and 2010, how many LTVP applications were rejected?

Singaporeans may face emotional and financial stress when their foreign spouses, and possibly children, are denied the right to live here.

Since the requirements for granting foreign spouses’ LTVP seem unclear, on what basis should a

Singaporean decide whether or not to marry a foreigner?

Could the authorities shed light on both questions?
