S & CC: A truly caring Govt?

  1. I refer to the article “15 PAP town councils to increase  service and conservancy charges from June 1” (Straits Times, Feb 17).
  2. I understand that this translates into an increase of between five to 20 per cent, by next year.

Why is there such an urgent need to increase, given that the town councils will be getting so much more grants from the Government?

Why is there such an urgent need to even increase the poorest one room flats by more than five per cent?

As the increase is also for market stalls and commercial properties – it may lead to higher prices.

And all these as we are in one of our worse economic downturns.

A truly caring Government will not do all these.

In this connection, hold your breath for the expected billions of dollars in the Budget that will be announced in Parliament on 20 February.
