This one really uniquely Singapore lah – employers also know MOM is stupid one – so whenever E Pass rejected – just try again apply S-Pass lah!
I refer to the article “Strange for MOM to reject an FT’s EP application at $5,500 but approve his S-Pass one at $6,000” (theonlinecitizen, Jul 29).
It states that “Earlier this month (9 Jul), an Indian national posted on the Singapore Expat Forum revealing that he was first rejected by the Manpower Ministry when he applied for an Employment Pass (EP) with salary of S$5,500. However, when his company later applied for him on S-Pass at S$6,000, his application became successful.
The foreign talent from India wrote, “I am from India and moving to Singapore for job as a Software Engineer. I am being offered SGD5500 monthly in my offer letter. According to my employer, they had applied for E-Pass but since it was not given, I am being issued IPA (In-Principle Approval) for S-pass.””
My friends said ” eh this one stranger than fiction right? Employment pass rejected then apply S-Pass approved!

No lah – I know why lah – news nowadays always say much less foreign talent and many employment pass rejected or cannot renew hor! (“151st article “Biggest drop in foreigners working in Singapore in 15 years: Manpower Ministry” (Straits Times, Mar 15)) – “The number of foreigners working here fell by 32,000 last year, the biggest drop in 15 years, even as more locals were employed.
The fall was more than 10 times the drop of 2,500 in 2016 …
the number of Employment Pass holders also fell by 4,500 – the first decline in at least six years – according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Manpower(MOM) on Thursday (March 15)”.
The shift followed a tightening of foreigner hiring rules in Singapore in recent years” – so, die die also must show employment pass dropping mah!
But then now kenna pekjia lobang – according to MOM web site – the number of foreign workers on employment and S-Passes did not decrease, but actually increased from 372,000 in 2016 to 372,100 in 2017 – because whilst employments passes decreased from 192,300 to 187,700 – S-Passes increased from 179,700 to 184,400!
So, talking cock and mixing the numbers lah – also, “other work passes” increased from 28,300 to 30,700″!
MOM means more overseas manpower lah – like that no wonder sinkies dying lah!
