Is our media among the highest paid in the world?
I refer to the article “SPH panel finds two ST editors breached code of conduct” (Straits Times, Oct 4).
It states that “”One editor will be removed from his post, demoted and redeployed; the other will be given a written warning, have his salary docked, and redeployed,” the SPH statement said.”
My friend asked “since one of the editor’s pay is docked” – how much is the pay? How much is an editor paid?
In this connection, according to SPH’s Corporate Governance Statement 2017 – “The Board is of the view that, given the confidential and commercial sensitivities associated with remuneration matters and the highly competitive human resource environment in which the Company operates and the importance of ensuring stability and continuity of business operations with a competent and experienced management team in place, it is in the best interests of the Company to not disclose the names of the Company’s top five key management personnel (who are not Directors or the CEO). The remuneration of the CEO is set out above. The remuneration of the top five key management personnel (who are not Directors or CEO) of the Company for this financial year are set out below in remuneration bands of $250,000.
The annual aggregate remuneration paid to the top five key management personnel of the Company (excluding the CEO) for FY2017 is S$5,443,000.”
Is our media among the lowest ranked for Press Freedom (151st) and among the highest for pay, in the world?
