“15 students” deleted from online news & not in print edition?
When we wrote “Only 15 Malay/Muslim students get TTFS at UniSIM?” in the afternoon of 26 August, quoting the Straits Times online story “Committee to spearhead fund-raising efforts for Yusof Ishak Professorship at NUS” (Straits Times, Aug 26) – we asked whether only 15 Malay/Muslim students at UniSIM qualifying for Mendaki’s Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy – seem to be a very small number, as UniSIM had 13,369 students.
Online article amended and did not appear in the print edition?
However, the online version of the article has been amended to “He also said that Malay/Muslim students at UniSIM will also be able to benefit from Mendaki’s Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy for needy students in full-time courses. The scheme, he revealed, has recently been extended to them”.
“15 students” deleted?
The “15 students” is no longer mentioned in the article.
Why is it that such an important piece of information was deleted?
New SG50 panel should look into questions raised?
Perhaps the “New SG50 panel to lead Malay/Muslim community efforts” (Straits Times, Aug 27) could also look into the above, and the various questions raised in our article.
By the way, the above article (New SG50 panel) also said “that needy Malay students at SIM University can now benefit from self-help group Mendaki’s Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy, adding that he hoped the scheme “will help and encourage more of our young people to pursue their passions and interests through tertiary education”. (Note: The original online article “Committee to spearhead fund-raising efforts for Yusof Ishak Professorship at NUS” – seems to have been merged into the print edition article “New SG50 panel to lead Malay/Muslim community efforts“.
