… 1987 Tuition fee $1,200, has increased over the years to $8,250 to $30,200 (Medicine/Dentistry) in AY2022/2023 – an increase of about 5.7% pa, in 35 years?


Inflation 1.6% pa

Note: Inflation was about 1.6% pa from 1987 (CPI 58.401) to 2022 (CPI Jun 101.9)


So, the real increase was 4.1% (5.7 – 1.6%)

0.2% Real increase in govt spending

… Real increase 0.2% pa Govt spending per university student last 33 years vs 4.1% pa real increase in tuition last 35 years?

In this connection, GOVERNMENT RECURRENT EXPENDITURE ON EDUCATION PER STUDENT – University: 1.8% pa increase (real increase 0.2%) from 1987 ($11,993) to 2020 ($21,538)


… 78.7% non-S’porean post-graduate students?

What is the total cost to taxpayers in funding the tuition grants, scholarships, course fees subsidies, etc, of having arguably, so many non-S’porean students, in all the public educational institutions in S’pore?
