Silly questions about software from an IT illiterate?

If I buy a new software to replace my existing one, does it mean that my existing software is now worth very little?

Would I be able to sellĀ  my existing software to someone else? Or would it be literally not worth a cent!

If I sold my existing software recently to a friend for not really a lot of money – it’s OK right – because my existing software would have been almost worthless anyway since I am buying a new software to replace it?

My neighbour who is in the same business, bought his software for not a lot of money – literally for peanuts I was toldĀ  – So, will I have any problems if I pay a lot – like in the millions for my new software?

People have been asking how much I paid for my old software, but I have been keeping mum – that’s OK right?

After all, software pricing can be very subjective – right?

Does it matter at all, as to when it was that I realised that my existing software was obsolete or no good, or not good enough for me to continue using it?

It doesn’t matter whether I told anybody about the above right?

Do I have to compare my existing and new software to the one that my neighbour is using, to evaluate whether I may be paying too much or too little for my old or new software?

Do I have to justify the necessity or urgency to buy my new software to replace my old one to anyone?

Does it matter whether I may be actually using other people’s money to pay for my old or new software?

I’m sorry for all the silly questions, but I’m really an IT illiterate.

Any advice that you can give me would be much appreciated.

I know it’s the day after April Fool’s Day – but, I’m not trying to be funny – I’m just illiterate!
